Network engineer, intermediate or senior (m/f/d)

About the role

Datacenter.eu is an independent internet services provider based in Luxembourg, offering cloud, colocation and connectivity services since 2000. We operate our own international backbone spanning four countries (Luxembourg, Belgium, Germany and France), and we are looking for an experienced network engineer to help us run, improve and grow it.

This is a hands-on core network role. You will work across the full scope of what an ISP does: backbone routing, peering and transit, customer connectivity, optical transport, fiber access, and datacenter networking. If you enjoy owning infrastructure end to end rather than one narrow slice of it, you will feel at home here.

The role is based at our Bettembourg and Steinsel sites, with hybrid working.

Your responsibilities

• Operate, maintain and evolve our multi-country backbone running MPLS/LDP, BGP, OSPF and IS-IS.

• Design and deploy services across our network, including EVPN, DWDM optical transport, FTTH access and datacenter fabrics.

• Work hands-on with equipment from Juniper, Huawei, Cisco and MikroTik.

• Lead troubleshooting of complex, service-impacting issues and drive them to root cause.

• Contribute to network architecture decisions, capacity planning and lifecycle management.

• Support and mentor less experienced colleagues on the team.

• Participate in the on-call rotation.

• Travel is minimal: an occasional visit to one of our datacenters at most.

Your profile

• Several years of hands-on experience in network engineering, ideally in an ISP, carrier or comparable service provider environment.

• Solid, practical command of routing protocols (BGP, OSPF and/or IS-IS) plus MPLS-based services (LDP, L2/L3 VPNs).

• Experience with at least one of our main vendors (Juniper, Huawei, Cisco, MikroTik). Familiarity with several is a plus.

• Exposure to one or more of: EVPN, optical/DWDM transport, FTTH access networks, or datacenter networking.

• A structured, calm approach to troubleshooting, including under pressure during incidents.

• Fluent English is required. French is a strong asset, German and Luxembourgish are nice to have.

• Relevant certifications (JNCIP/JNCIE, CCNP/CCIE or equivalent) are appreciated but not a substitute for real-world experience.

Meet your team leader

I'm Marc, 36, and I lead the network team you would be joining. I have been with the company since 2014, back when it was still very small. In those early days I did a bit of everything, and over the years I have helped build the company and its network up to 4 countries and more than 15 POPs.

I spent many years in the boy scouts, and that experience still shapes how I lead: I value autonomy and expect people to take ownership, while placing a strong emphasis on teamwork. I firmly believe a leader should lead from the front, which is why I remain deeply involved in the day-to-day operations of our network rather than managing from a distance.

Outside of work, I enjoy riding my motorcycle, sport shooting, and spending time with my 3-year-old kid.
